This is a well-established procedure for the control of chronic long-standing pain. This has been performed safely for over a hundred years, since 1909. The treatment involves the placement of simple applicators with cotton, dipped into local anesthetic and placed at the back of the nose. Minor side effects may occur. The SPG block is used for the treatment of difficult migraine, cluster headaches and chronic painful conditions. This includes facial pain, post shingles (herpetic) pain.
Fibromyalgia can respond favorably. When satisfactory pain control is achieved maintenance therapy is desirable. The mind is not clouded from this procedure and you can drive safely and function normally when the treatment is completed. Ask your physician at Arthritis Associates of South Florida if this procedure would be appropriate for you.
